So I said wake up, wake up, wake up / 'Cause its the first of the month / And you have to get up, get up, get up.
The month of December entails so many things! The no-brainer being the Holiday season and that in itself means a plethora of things. In more tangible terms, this is the last week of classes, which in turn equals 3 WEEKS OF WINTER BREAK. If the world decides to be good to me, those 3 weeks will be filled with good people with good better times. But first and foremost, catch me tending to people behind the front desk to keep the stack of paper at a comfortable level even after splurging on my loved ones' gifts. This entry would be complemented well with a wishlist...... if I only had one to speak of. I, personally don't like having wishlists because I'd rather buy the things I want on my own time, with my own money. Plus, this season loses its spirit if that's all I'm anticipating for, doesn't it? And especially coming from the roots of my 3rd world country this summer, it put me into retrospect of what sacrifices especially with your money can mean. So to kick off this month of lovely and grateful tidings....... off to Western Union I go to send more Christmas money to my family in the Philippines. If I can Christmas shop, then give them the opportunity to shop too right? What I'm trying to get at with this entry is: don't lose sight of the more important and dire matters concerning the rest of the world when you're so consumed in your own little worlds (especially this December). I know it's hard, but stay humble, stay close to your roots.
To further put you in perspective: "But the influx of holiday season donations hasn't come in, and the food bank is getting desperate." Read the October 31st article concerning the food bank here. I'm grateful I have the opportunity to help this issue on Thursday with my Crim class where we will be collecting non-perishable canned foods. Do your part. Sacrifice a little.
